How I Started Sculpting with Willow (And Why I Never Looked Back)
I still remember the first time I picked up a bundle of willow. I was walking in early spring, noticing how the branches curved in the wind. I brought a few home, more out of curiosity than intention. But once I started weaving, something clicked.
At first, I made small, simple shapes — circles, spirals, the beginnings of something. It didn’t take long before I realised I’d found my material. Willow is forgiving and strong, but also wild. You have to work with it, not against it. That felt just right to me.
Since then, I’ve sculpted foxes, birds, flowing figures, and all kinds of commissions — but the heart of my work is still rooted in that first feeling: quiet, grounded, and full of possibility.
